Freedom of mobility

2 July 2025

In 2025, building on the foundation laid in the first phase of the project, Circleg continued its mission to restore mobility and dignity to low-income lower-limb amputees in Uganda. Out of the 20 amputees selected for 2025, 10 had completed the full prosthetic care process by June. These individuals were treated at the Newlife Orthopaedic Centre (Newlife).

As with the first phase, Circleg continued to lead the coordination of the project and provided the prosthetic devices, while Newlife remained central to implementation. Their facilities manufactured the sockets, fitted the prosthetic, delivered gait training, and followed up with rehabilitation. The ASNU (Amputee Self-Help Network Uganda) remained the key psychosocial partner, ensuring that each beneficiary received the emotional and peer support essential for their successful reintegration.

The ASNU, led by Dr. Alex, provided individual psychosocial counselling and led group peer sessions. These efforts help address trauma, build confidence, and reinforce a positive outlook among beneficiaries. Additionally, Emmanuel from Circleg in Kenya travelled to Uganda to perform on-the-ground technical follow-ups, ensuring the quality and fit of every prosthesis delivered.
